A REAL ID–compliant driver’s license or identification card is required to board domestic commercial flights within the United States and to access certain federal facilities.

REAL ID–compliant identification is issued by state motor vehicle agencies. To confirm compliance, look for a star in the upper-right corner of your driver’s license or state ID.

If your ID is not REAL ID–compliant, you may be required to present an alternative acceptable form of identification, such as a valid passport.

U.S. citizens visiting or transiting through the United Kingdom may be required to obtain a UK Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) prior to travel.

An ETA is required unless you:

• Hold a valid UK visa, or

• Have legal residency in the United Kingdom or the Republic of Ireland

The ETA is an electronic authorization obtained online before travel and is required for short stays and transit through the UK.

Travel requirements can change, and not all travelers are subject to the same rules. We strongly recommend confirming your specific requirements before departure.

The European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) is a forthcoming entry requirement for visa-free travelers visiting most European countries.

Important: ETIAS is not yet in effect. While implementation has been announced, it has been delayed and is not currently required for travel at this time.

Once implemented, ETIAS will apply to travelers visiting 30 European countries for short stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period. Travelers will be required to obtain an online travel authorization prior to arrival.
